State Food and Veterinary Service (SFVC) informs that yesterday it received reports regarding two new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) in commercial pig farms in Kuldiga district, Latvia. In total, more than 11,600 pigs will have to be exterminated in both pig farms due to the infection. Ten days ago, the first outbreak of ASF in the country this year was recorded in the same district of Latvia. SFVS specialists are very concerned about the fact that new ASF sources are being registered near the Lithuanian border. Therefore, pig farmers in our country are also urged to adhere to biosecurity measures.
